Real Housewives of ATL Reunion Show: My Thoughts.

*Update* My thoughts on the reunion show:

Kim was all over the place last night, and cancer Kim? Really? I mean I hope for her sake she wasn't lying, because if she was, she really needs help.  And going back over some of the whoppers Kim has told already, I wouldn't put it past her to make up some stuff just to try to get sympathy.  *UPDATE* Kim has claimed that she thought she'd "get killed" after the reunion show. Ridiculous.
Deshawn was... wait was she even there?  Moving on..
Lisa. Last night, we found out that Lisa was how Kim found out about Nene's song through Sheree.. or via speakerphone. If Kim is saying that Lisa told her about Nene's song on the speakerphone, given Kim's track record, it's probably a lie, so I'm gonna go with Lisa telling the story to Sheree (in confidence) then Sheree blabbing to Kim about it.  Real classy Sheree.
And Sheree gets my harshest criticism in this post.  First of all, Sheree, since you like to "keep it classy," classy people don't keep "announcing" how classy they are.  Classy people don't feel the need to let everybody know how much they paid for a dress (see more of my thoughts on that in this post).  Classy people wouldn't reveal something that was told to them in confidence. Classy people don't start drama and then claim to anybody who's listening that they "don't engage in drama." Out of all the women on Atlanta housewives, Sheree came off as the most simple looking, shallow, fake, phony, manipulative, wannabe sophisticated "housewife" of the bunch IMO.  And attractive as she may be, all the rest of that foolishness cancels out her attractiveness.  My advice to Sheree would be to grow up.
Nene. All I have to say about Nene is that I'm looking forward to the next season of Atlanta Housewives because of HER. Period.  THE END.

Watch a snippet from the Bravo TV.com Blog Awards for the ATL Housewives here.
Don't forget to tune in.  The ladies from Orange County return tonight as well, right after the reunion show.

My Love Affair w/ Scarves Part II: Pashmina International

I ♥ scarves!  Don't believe me?  See here, here and here.  I have one in almost every color!  A scarf is a wonderful way to add color to an outfit, or to just keep warm.  You'd be surprised at how warm you can stay by just wrapping a scarf around your neck. Even with your arms exposed. It's a beautiful thing if you're cold-natured.  And the larger ones can double as a blanket when you're traveling! Love. Which is why I had to tell you about the new scarf I just got from Pashmina International, it's a beautiful lilac color, it's soft and warm and not too thick.  Their scarves are all made from cashmere and silk, so you don't have any crazy, synthetic and scratchy fabrics around your neck.  They're also a fab holiday gift idea! And they gift wrap and express mail! I did my holiday shopping online last year, and let me tell you, once you do it like that, you're not trying to fight crowds at another shopping center. Trust that.

Thanksgiving is at the front door and Christmas will be here before we know it, so check out Pashmina International for yourself or for that special person on your gift list today!

ANTM's Toccara in a "Dorothy" Get Up at the AMA's...

Let's get the niceties outta the way first. Because Toccara is looking great here.  She did "Celebrity Fit Club" a couple times, she shed some extra weight, so she looks healthy and fit but she kept her curves that she was adamant about not losing. That being said, the only thing Toccara is missing with this look she chose to wear to the American Music Awards is a basket and a little dog.

These Two are Rollin' In It...

What happens when you marry an $82 million hip-hop brand and an $80 million R&B empire? You get Hollywood's best-paid power couple, Beyonce and Jay Z.  Thanks to a monster year filled with music, movies, fashion and endorsement deals, Jay-Z and his new bride, Beyonce Knowles, collectively raked in $162 million between June 1, 2007 and June 1, 2008. The jaw-dropping sum garners them bragging rights atop our first annual ranking of Hollywood's Top-Earning Couples, a list that also includes A-list pairings Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman, David and Victoria Beckham, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, and Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, among others.

Will and Jada Pinkett Smith hauled in some $85 million over the past year, making them No. 2 on the list. Though Jada's resume continues to grow, Will's the family breadwinner. He raked in $80 million in the year ending June 2008, thanks to another set of top-performing blockbusters: "I Am Legend," "The Pursuit of Happyness," and this past summer's "Hancock." Together the flicks banked $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office, making him Hollywood's most bankable star. Jada pulled in $5 million during the same 12-month period, thanks to roles as an actress ("The Women"), producer ("The Human Contract"), and businesswoman (a stake in beauty line Carol's Daughter).

Rounding out the top 5 money-making couples:

#3 David and Victoria Beckham made $58 million

#4 Tim McGraw and Faith Hill made $35 million

#5 Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie made 34 million

Blair is surprised by his affect on women:

"Making Friends With Black People" Coming to NBC TV...

Mara Brock Akil, Creator & Executive Producer of "Girlfriends" and "The Game"

President-elect Barack Obama is already bringing about change -- to the world of network TV development, at least.  NBC is developing a comedy based on the book "Making Friends With Black People," a buddy comedy that will focus on the state of race relations in the U.S.

The show isn't specifically about Obama's rise as the nation's first African-American president -- but "Making Friends" hopes to capitalize on how Obama's success has changed the nation's dialogue on race.  "From time to time, race bubbles up in the consciousness of the country and then dissipates," said "Making Friends" author Nick Adams. "Now, with Obama, people are talking about race a lot more. We hope to capitalize on that and not let the dialogue die down. ... It seemed like a good opportunity to strike while the iron is hot."

"The Game" exec producers Mara Brock Akil (above, who also created "Girlfriends") and Salim Akil will write the script and serve as exec producers on the project.  "Making Friends" will center on two guys -- one African-American and one white -- who become close friends, but who don't necessarily see things the same way.

Universal Media Studios is behind the project, along with Industry Entertainment.  The "Making Friends" book was penned in 2006 by Adams, a standup comic who took a humorous look at how people dance around issues of race.  Adams will serve as a co-producer on the project, while Industry's Dianne Fraser and Eryn Brown will be co-exec producers.

Real Housewives of ATL: Lisa vs. Kim? *LINK UPDATE*

Wow, I wasn't expecting this one at all.  Out of all the Real Housewives from the Atlanta season, Lisa seemed to be the calm, level-headed, rational one. Something major must have went down to make Lisa jump off like this on Kim: And Kim's scattered account of things in that video don't make a drop of sense. And a lawyer Kim? Seriously? Below is Lisa's summary of what happened (via Essence.com):

Super drama! Let's just say, Kim [Zolciak] pushed the wrong and the last button, which takes me there. Normally, I conduct myself professionally and I prefer to turn the other cheek, but you can't allow people to continue to play with you because they'll think they can do that all day, every day. So I'd say that people will be surprised because I was surprised and somewhat embarrassed myself, but I'm human and you have to let people know that they can't just say whatever they want to you. I've been extremely diplomatic and there are horrible things I could have said but I have chosen not to and still do. When you come after my integrity or my family, then you're going to see a different person. I think that I know all of the women-NeNe, Sheree, Deshawn, and Kim-better now and I will deal with them differently next season. I was naïve coming in and I've learned some people just have ill intentions, so I will deal with each individual accordingly. But people need to know that yes, I'm a businesswoman but I'm also a sparring woman.

I don't know. This mess just seems random and out of the blue to me, these two weren't even beefing like during their season!  So my question is this, is it real or publicity for the show?  It's hard to tell right now, but now I can't wait until the reunion show next week!  Sad to say, real or fake, publicity works.

*UPDATE* Ok, I just read this over at Essence.com, and if Kim was juvenile enough to say any of this foolishness, then I don't blame Lisa one bit.

What the Obama's Can Expect at the White House...

Beyonce Selling Her Wedding Pics? NOPE.

Beyonce insists she would have never considered selling photos of her hush-hush wedding to Jay-Z to a glossy celebrity magazine. Still, the singer acknowledges that she was amazed at the amount of money that was offered.

"Now, they offer crazy money that's just ridiculous," she said in a recent interview, laughing. "But in the end, absolutely not. It's so not worth it. If anything, if you wanna put something out, then put it out, not for (money)."

Beyonce and Jay-Z were married in April in an intimate ceremony in New York City.

"We worked really hard at keeping it private," she said. "I've always been this way, and he's always been this way, so that's why we complement each other. We always knew that it would be private and quiet, for all the right reasons."

Though Beyonce declined to talk about specific details, she's been more open to acknowledging her relationship in recent interviews after years of silence about it.

She's due to release her new CD, "I AM ... SASHA FIERCE," on Nov. 18. MySpace Music is giving listeners worldwide the first official preview of the CD on its Web site starting 3 a.m. EST Tuesday. The 27-year-old singer joins the list of other musicians who provide fans with an online preview of the CD in the days before its release.

Michelle Obama's Emerging Style...

Comparisons of Michelle Obama to Jacqueline Kennedy have centered on style and fashion. Watch for Michelle Obama to become a trendsetter, possibly a reluctant one. -Darlene Superville

First Lady-Elect Michelle Obama has been both praised and maligned for her style choices. She takes risks. She enjoys trendy American designers as well as more classic looks. She buys online and off the rack, but she's also courted by top designers. So just when you think you know what Michelle Obama is gonna wear, she surprises you, and I think that's gonna make her super interesting to watch.  I don't think we're going to be able to box her into one fashion mold, because as soon as we try, she's gonna break out of it and do something totally different.  I, of course, have my own style ideas for her, but I'm actually looking forward to seeing what she does next.

Beyonce to Play Wonder Woman?

According to People Magazine, Beyonce thinks she would be a "bold choice" to play Wonder Woman, and she's apparently already met with Warner Bros. movie reps to talk about taking on the role.  Obvious reasons aside, Beyonce isn't the worst actress in the world, but she's not the greatest at it either, even for a drama-light, superhero role.  So if I had a vote, then I vote NO:

Already a superstar, Beyoncé now has her eyes set on becoming a superhero.

"What would be better than Wonder Woman?" she tells the Los Angeles Times. "It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It's time for that, right?"  The singer-actress, 27, has met with representatives at DC Comics and Warner Bros. to discuss donning the red, white and blue bathing suit on screen, she says.

"After doing these roles that were so emotional I was thinking to myself, 'OK, I need to be a superhero,'" Beyoncé tells the Times. "Although, when you think about the psychology of the heroes in the films these days, they are still a lot of work, of course, and emotional. But there's also an action element that I would enjoy."

Her interest in the role was strengthened earlier this year when she went to New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art and saw on display Lynda Carter's iconic costume. "I would definitely have to keep it right for that costume," she says. "But I love Wonder Woman and it'd be a dream come true to be that character. It sure would be handy to have that lasso."

University Fab...

I was honored and privileged recently to have the opportunity to speak to an "African Americans and the Media" class about blogging at Southern University Baton Rouge, through the invite of one of my most loyal Hip Candy readers, Professor Broome (thank you!).  And even though I was completely out of my comfort zone speaking in front of folks, I have to say, it was a great experience. I thought the class was an awesome group, especially since they mistakenly thought I was a young 20-something like them. Did I mention that this class was AWESOME? Anyhoo, I just wanted to thank them for welcoming me into their class and allowing me to explain what I do as a blogger, how blogging can be a serious money maker, and how blogs are continually changing the landscape of traditional media.  Below are a few links to what we talked about:

GOP Lawyers Dispatched to Alaska to Retrieve Clothing..

Wow. I almost feel sorry for her a little.  Now mind you, I'm super relieved that she is NOT the Vice-President Elect (so very, VERY relieved), but this bad news just keeps piling on:

Sarah Palin left the national stage Wednesday, but the controversy over her role on the ticket flared as aides to John McCain disclosed new details about her expensive wardrobe purchases and revealed that a Republican Party lawyer would be dispatched to Alaska to inventory and retrieve the clothes still in her possession...

For weeks, the McCain-Palin campaign has dealt with the fallout from the disclosure that the Republican National Committee was billed for $150,000 in wardrobe purchases for the Palin family -- a discovery that was widely ridiculed and undercut Palin's hockey mom appeal.

Several McCain aides said they had recently discovered that Palin's traveling staff had used personal credit cards to spend as much as $20,000 to $30,000 on additional wardrobe items for Palin.

Michelle Obama to Cover VOGUE Magazine?

Could we see Michelle Obama on the cover of Vogue soon after the inauguration of her husband, President-elect Barack Obama? The next first lady appeared on a slew of magazine covers as the presidential race entered its last months. But Vogue has been campaigning for a Michelle Obama cover since last September — both in print and in person. Editor in chief Anna Wintour and contributing editor André Leon Talley hosted several fund-raisers for the Obamas last summer, rallying the fashion community’s support for the Illinois senator. The magazine profiled Michelle Obama in its September issue and featured her as an “It” girl in the April one. Obama campaign adviser Valerie Jarrett was profiled in October. Vogue even spread its affections to the Democratic vice presidential candidate — the magazine photographed in November four generations of Biden women, including Vice President-elect Joe Biden’s wife, Jill. (Vogue showed some love to the Republican ladies, too. Cindy McCain was profiled in the May issue and Roberta McCain was featured in the August Age issue.)

“Starting with Eleanor Roosevelt, it’s been a long-standing tradition to photograph the new first lady. So needless to say, we are very interested in working with Mrs. Obama. Precisely how is still being discussed,” said a Vogue spokesman. If Obama does land the cover, she’ll be only the second first lady to do so in Vogue’s 116-year history; Hillary Rodham Clinton appeared on the December 1998 issue.

Despite Vogue’s best efforts, Ebony might get to the Obamas beforehand — the Chicago-based title is quickly assembling a special January issue dedicated to Barack Obama’s candidacy. The issue will be a reflection of Ebony’s coverage of the campaign and the First Family over the past 18 months, but the magazine is extending the close on the issue in hopes of getting a last-minute interview with the President-elect and his family before closing. Essence is also said to be working on a special package for its January issue, but details have not been hammered out

Michelle Obama in Narciso Rodriguez on Election Night.

I have to be honest about First Lady-Elect Michelle Obama's designer Narciso Rodriguez dress (Spring 2009) last night.  I didn't like it. The whole look of this dress had me confused.

Now if she was partial to wearing Narciso Rodriguez last night with the obvious red and black theme that the First Family-Elect was going for, I would have gone with the chic and modern black, slightly off the shoulder number from the same Rodriguez Spring '09 collection (below) and added a few chic red accessories (shoes, necklace or belt). With Michelle's height and stature, she would have rocked it.

Barack Obama: The Next President of the United States.

November 4, 2008

The Next President of the United States.

A truly historic night.  A truly historic election.  I barely have the words.  This is an election that will inspire people of all races to dare to dream. To realize that ANYTHING is possible. Barack Obama is the American dream personified.  My words here don't even seem adequate for the magnitude of events that's taken place on November 4, 2008. But the American people have spoken, they've chosen HOPE over FEAR and UNITY over DIVISION.  I am very, very hopeful for the future of this country, but we all still need to do our part.  We need to get behind the new president, PRESIDENT-ELECT BARACK OBAMA and remain engaged and active and continue to offer up our prayers and support to this new administration.

Barack Obama's Grandmother (Toot) Dies...

The statement released from Sen. Barack Obama and his sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng:

"It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died peacefully after a battle with cancer. She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility. She was the person who encouraged and allowed us to take chances. She was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and left this world with the knowledge that her impact on all of us was meaningful and enduring. Our debt to her is beyond measure.

"Our family wants to thank all of those who sent flowers, cards, well-wishes, and prayers during this difficult time. It brought our grandmother and us great comfort. Our grandmother was a private woman, and we will respect her wish for a small private ceremony to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to any worthy organization in search of a cure for cancer."
