I Promise I'm Not Purposely Looking For Jumpsuits...

 These things are just everywhere!  This one that Amerie is wearing looks real similar to this one posted here previously.  What in the world is the deal with these things??  Did I miss this fast, emerging jumpsuit trend on the runways? Style Verdict: Jumpsuit #5137

Ok, ok... so we haven't seen that many jumpsuits here on Hip Candy, but we've seen our fair share of them, that's for sure.  Everybody was showing up wearing different jumpsuit styles for a minute there! But this latest one, I have to admit, I don't mind as much as the previous ones posted.  It has a wonderfully tailored quality to it, which makes it fall nicely, and it has pockets!  Love that.  You could also style this jumpsuit with a lightweight button-up blouse and menswear tie for a "power suit" type look, or pairing it with a nice frilly ruffled blouse would also complement it, I think.  But that's just my opinion.  I wanna know what you think about it.  Do you like it?  Hate it?  Don't care?  Would you wear it?  I wanna know your style verdict.

Do Not Attempt To Adjust Your Screen.

Because it's not your computer screen, it's the psychedelic colors on Tracee's dress. These two colors are close to impossible to combine successfully and should not, I repeat, should not be attempted unless you are a skilled professional.  Imagine yourself trying to chat her up at the party while trying not to look directly at her dress.  It's hard to focus on it for even a few seconds without getting cross-eyed!  She could seriously blind anyone who came within a few feet of her with this wacky color combination.  And that just wouldn't be cool at a swank Hollywood party.

Tyra Covers The New York Times Magazine...

I'm loving this cover pic of Tyra for some reason.  
This Sunday, curvy Tyra Banks is the cover girl, and inside there's a profile written by editor at large Lynn Hirschberg that follows the life of the former model who is turning herself into a brand. 
The  New York Times profile mainly follows her through her responsibilities behind her shows, including "America's Next Top Model," "The Tyra Banks Show." Banks talks about her early modeling days, relating how her agency made a list titled, ''designers who will not book Tyra because of hips and breasts." But now Banks appears more concerned with her role as a brand: "Like her hero, Martha Stewart, Banks wants, most of all, for her name to immediately suggest a distinct point of view," writes Hirschberg. "Her brand, like her trademark 'tough but still smiling' smile, is consistent in all her shows: serious about the frivolous; empathetic and empowering, and always, always aimed at young women, across all races. It's girly TV with a punch." 
Turning herself into a brand. A smart move and fab look on her.

Pics From The Sex And The City Premiere in NYC...

The "Sex and the City" movie premiere was held earlier in New York City on May 27, 2008 at Radio City Music Hall.  The movie opens this weekend!  And the original motion picture soundtrack from the movie is available NOW!  Got a little Jennifer Hudson on it, Fergie, India Arie, Al Green with Joss Stone.  Nice.  A few pics from the pink carpet event below:

LL Signs On To Launch A Hip Hop Brand At Sears.

LL Cool J is launching a brand called "LL Cool J for Sears".  I know, clever, right? I'm an LL fan (and he's smokin' in that pic..) but he could have come up with something better than "LL Cool J For Sears" IMO.  Anyhoo, His collection will be a collection of casual wear for juniors, young men's, girls, and boys, and it's gonna roll out to 450 of Sears 90 stores in September and could generate as much as $100 million to $150 million in its first year, sources said.
LL Cool J knows about women's apparel, the hip-hop artist insists he's had plenty of experience. "I was raised by a matriarch, I have a wife and three daughters, so I know what women are looking for when they shop for clothes," he said. "My main concern with juniors is to make sure the fit is right. The fabrics have to feel nice on a woman's body, but sizing and fit are very important. I know that if she comes in, puts it on and it doesn't fit, she won't come back. Clothes have to make a woman feel good, relaxed and sexy. We are going to be constantly looking at fine-tuning the fit and we'll get it right."
There will be a major marketing push behind the LL Cool J brand as well, both in print and TV.  The ads will feature LL Cool J himself, along with his family — his wife, Simone, son Najee and daughters Italia, Samaria and Nina. The idea, the rapper said, is to bring the brand to the whole family by showcasing his own family in the campaign. In addition, LL Cool J said he will be working on more ways to give customers access to him, by holding in-store contests where a shopper can win a chance to hang with him in the studio or on the set of a video.

Note to actress Amaia Salamanca: You really shouldn't be looking so pleased with yourself.  This Hammer Pants look is NOT OK.  No ma'am.  Absolutely not.  And even though I owned a similar black pair back in the day, this wasn't hot then, and it's certainly not hot now.  Let's put a stop to this madness before it even starts.  For real.
*UPDATE*Ok, so umm... I totally own a pair of these now. Purchased a knit pair about a year ago, so... yeah.

Now, I'm gonna leave you with the latest "Raiders of the Lost Ark"  movie trailer (it's the 4th one, right?) which opened in theaters on May 22nd.  Looks fun enough.  I'll probably see it this weekend, because "Sex and the City" opens next weekend, so needless to say, I'll be having a "girls weekend" next weekend with "Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha".

I am loving this dress! It's flowy and carefree (who is it? Roberto Cavalli?).  It has a casual, beach chic look, but it can also easily pass as a formal, red-carpet event look.  I LOVE that!  And the fact that Sharon chose to wear a flat sandal makes this look all the more perfect to me. Oprah Announces Favorite Things, People Lose Their Minds..

Oprah announced on her show on Friday May 16, that she WOULDN'T be doing her famous "Oprah's Favorite Things" episode, but her audience obviously heard something else because people lost their minds after she announced it.  Hopefully Oprah has these "Favorite Things" episodes heavily insured, because sooner or later, somebody's gonna hurt themselves.

I don't think I've ever seen one of these episodes.  What in the world does she give away like that??

Her HAIR ROOTS that is.  I'd just like to take a moment of silence right now to thank her hair team for successfully bringing her back from this look.  And it looks like they had to add a little extra, but that's ok! The only thing that matters is that GLAM Jada is back.  Hair experimentation can be totally overrated sometimes.  Trust me.  I know.

CHANEL To Add Its Starpower To Robertson Blvd.

No, not me, the CHANEL brand, lol!  Although my "star power" can be pretty strong too.. According to Women's Wear Daily, CHANEL will be the newest store added to "see and be seen" Robertson Blvd. in Los Angeles.  And personally, I think it's a smart gangster move for the CHANEL brand:

The fashion house will unveil a new store concept this month housing a smaller, more tightly focused selection of products geared to a more trend-conscious set.  CHANEL will be the first designer megabrand on the two-block stretch between Third Street and Beverly Blvd., and will be joined on Robertson by Dolce & Gabbana's D&G concept and Ralph Lauren.

Check out a few scenes from Tyra's new show to debut soon on the CW Network. They're calling it a mixture of "The Apprentice" and "The Devil Wears Prada", so it's going to be a show about aspiring assistants looking to become assitant editors at a fashion magazine. This show looks so over the top (is Ann Slowey serious? And what's the deal with the snack trays?), but then again we are talking about a Tyra Banks produced show...

And I gotta tell you, I didn't believe anything about the two of them together when all of this first went down, but I have to give it to them, they do look legit.  I sincerely hope they're happy.

Racism On A T-Shirt...

When I first spotted this over at C&L, I said to myself, WTH?!  This right here is NOT COOL. Seriously, people need to slow down with stuff like this. And the bar owner in Marietta, Georgia who is peddling these shirts (with a monkey peeling a banana with "Obama in '08 on it) said that the shirts were "not meant to offend". Janet Is Dramatic.

She's plenty dramatic with this get-up on, even though she kinda-sorta pulls it off.  Heavy emphasis on "kinda-sorta".  Ok, so I really just put her on this page because what she's wearing matches the Hip Candy color scheme nicely. Well!  Look at my header and then look at her dress.  It flows!  It's perfectly coordinated.  Janet Jackson wore this Alexander McQueen dress when she attended Alexander McQueen's Los Angeles Flagship Store Launch Party on May 13, 2008.  But this dress would have been an even better choice for the Met's NYC Costume Institute Gala where the theme of the night was "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy".  Major missed opportunity Janet!  You really should have called me.

American Idol Is Slowly Losing Its Audience.

I'm a self-professed reality show junkie.  From "The Hills" to "Flavor of Love" to "Top Model" I've watched all these shows + more and been excited about them.  I have not, however, been excited about the latest season of "American Idol", and by "not excited about it", I mean I haven't watched "American Idol" this year AT ALL.  And the signs that people aren't watching are beginning to show.  The ratings are down more than they have been in the last 3-5 years.  Read the full story here.
