Sandals Over Tights.. Cute, or Not Cute?

I'm the first one to admit the loathsome nature of certain "fashion rules". Like not wearing white after Labor Day... please, says who?!!! But this one here.. sandals over tights.. I don't know. Maybe I'm looking at it all wrong, because it's just not jumping out at me. What do ya'll think? Cute, or not cute?

The Green Initiative Humanitarian Fashion Show...
The Green Initiative Humanitarian Fashion show got my vote for the show with the highest energy. And the best swag, lol! There were a total of 6 designers that showed their sustainable fashion ["M" The Movement, Lady Muse, Andira Rain Tees, Lilikoi, Vintage China, and Rene Geneva Design]. Bamboo plants lined the stage and were given away generously at the end of the show. The whole event was very entertaining, educational and informational. More pics and video from the show below.

Backstage With New Designer Alexis LaMontagna...

I had the chance to speak briefly with new designer Alexis LaMontagna before her debut fall runway show at Los Angeles Fashion Week, and although she was just a tad nervous, she couldn't have been sweeter. My interview with her and scenes from her show below:
Me: First of all, congratulations on your line, this is your first time showing, right?
Alexis: It is my first time ever, my first collection ever..Me: And you graduated from Otis (College of Art & Design)?
Alexis: I actually didn't graduate, I went for a little while but I didn't graduate. It was very tough.
Me: Yeah, well design school is way tougher than a lot of people might think, wouldn't you say?
Alexis: Design school is brutal! It was very tough.
Me: I know, right?! I went to FIDM, and you go in thinking that it's gonna be a cake walk and it's NOT.
Alexis: Design school is brutal! It was very tough.
Me: I know, right?! I went to FIDM, and you go in thinking that it's gonna be a cake walk and it's NOT.
Alexis: No, you're right! Design school is a lot of work.
Me: So what can we expect from your first line?
Me: So what can we expect from your first line?

Alexis: Well, my vision for this collection was kind of a goth glamour, a little bit of Jean Harlow, but still very goth.
Me: So are we gonna see lots of black, or did you incorporate some color into this line?
Alexis: You'll see a lot of black, but there's also some red. Mainly black and red.

Me: Ok, I have a question for you, kind of off-topic. As a brand new designer, how do you feel about all the celebrities that are coming out with clothing lines and the impact that may have on newer designers out there, such as yourself?
Alexis: You know what, I'm not a hater, I think... why not? I think that they're cool.
Me: So you don't think that it [celeb clothing lines] impacts designers at all at some level?
Alexis: Well sure, I mean, if you have a celebrity that's gonna back a line and wear the clothing, then yeah, there's automatically gonna be lots of girls that are gonna wanna dress like them and look like them, so of course it does have an impact.

Me: Where do you see your clothing in the next few years after the showing of your first line?Alexis: I am just very interested in growing my line and growing up, and having my line grow with me.
Me: Ok, well I can't wait to see what you're sending down the runway later.
Alexis: Thank you so much!

LA Fashion Week: Kellynishimoto's Girly Looks...

My 5 year old niece Autumn had a conversation with me not too long ago about the bows that she wears in her hair and she was expressing her dislike of their massive size. I think her exact words to me were, "sometimes the bows in my hair are so big, I can't even believe it!" I couldn't help but laugh at that while telling her mother (my brother's wife Nicole) about her feelings on the matter. And we both had a good chuckle about the whole situation. It was funny! I guess Autumn felt big bows in her hair were for "little" girls, and she was trying to make the assertion that she was no longer in that category. I said all that to say this. When we're younger, we often try to escape our childhood and youth before it's time. So when we're older, it's probably only natural that we want to rush back to anything that reminds us of being a little girl. And I for one, don't see anything wrong with that!

Imasu by Kellynishimoto kicked off Los Angeles Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios with a collection of very young, bright, girly looks. She showcased lots of big bows (loved those), ruffles, and embellished looks in a rich fall palette of color. When the first look (the grey knit sweater with the BIG black bow, above) came down the runway, I remember saying to myself, (OMG! I love it.) Other looks I liked were a red sequined, strappy cocktail dress she did and a short black mini dress with pockets accented with oversized buttons. Nice.

Fierce! Christian Wins Project Runway Season 4...
Christian Siriano was declared the winner of Project Runway Season 4. And in his words.. What? Did you even doubt? Lol! Christian didn't have the most wearable collection, but in my opinion, it was the most creative. Jillian's showcase was fun, feminine and very wearable, and Rami's work was excellently crafted with his drapes, folds and weaving, but Christian's pieces took lots of imagination which was exciting to see. And he's such a young talent! Congrats to him.
Who Will Win Project Runway Season 4?

Jillian Lewis
(and is her model ANTM Cycle 8 Winner, Jaslene?)
The Project Runway finale airs tonight on BRAVO.
