Not Quite, Love...

Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, ruining an otherwise cute white dress by wearing an unfortunate looking pair of black leggings underneath (is it just me, or are they shiny too??) to the Comic Con International Festival on July 28 in San Diego, CA.

Minisocks: Would You Wear?

When I first saw these in my Elle.com email, surprisingly, I wasn't completely turned off by the look. Actually I was more intrigued than anything else...

Pairing socks with stylish shoes can be an unforgivable faux pas, but French designer Delphine Murat is futhering socks' fashion cause. Her minisocks (minisock.com) are the must-have accessory if you're looking to add color to plain pumps or a neutral outfit. They also protect feet from pinching and chafing from uncomfortable shoes, so you can feel like you're wearing socks and sandals without having to look like you are.

I've checked out their site and the minisocks come in a myriad of colors and styles. And like I said, personally, I'm not all that opposed to them. I can see them looking cute done right and paired with a cute and quirky outfit. But I wanna know what you guys think? Do you like it? Hate it? Don't care? Would you wear them? I wanna know your style verdict.

I've Been Tagged!

I've been tagged by two fab fashion bloggers: Adventures in the Stiletto Jungle and Shopalicious. The rules for this game of tag are that each player starts with 7 random facts/ habits about him or herself. Then the people who are tagged need to then report this fact on their blog along with their 7 things, along with these rules. They then tag 7 others and list their names on their blog. They are also asked to leave a comment for each of the tagged, letting them know they have been tagged and to read the blog. Got it? Ok, here goes:

1. My current indulgences are a) Dove rich dark chocolates with chocolate creme accompanied with a glass of red, b) the cheese danish or the banana loaf with a non-fat latte from Starbucks, and c) shelled pistachio nuts with a cup of ice.
2. When I travel, I've got the lightweight packing thing down to a science. I hardly ever check my bag. It's always small enough to carry on. Plus the airlines are getting notorious for losing all your gear, and that's so not cool with me.
3. I have just about every type of exercise DVD imaginable. From low-impact, to high, to weight-training, to pilates, to yoga, to dance, to jumping rope to interval training. I pop them in on occasion when I feel the urge, but the key is consistency.
4. My hair is the longest its been in a good long while. It's long enough to frighten me at times. It's a new sensation that's taking some getting used to. I'll feel it on my back on occasion and swat at it (not realizing it's only my hair..) because it feels like something's crawling on me back there.
5. I love designer clothing, but I also think that comfy sweats and warm socks are a GIFT from GOD.
6. I am a prescription eyeglass and contact lens wearer.
7. I think the person who invented audiobooks is a friggin' genius. I like to read, but I'd much rather listen to a long book and complete it in a couple days time, and then listen to it again if I'm so inclined.
So there you have it! So now for my tags. Hmm... I think I'll tag Daddy Likey, Fashion Nette-Work, Lavish Magazine, Hue Interiors, Pink Rock Candy, Thick Misses, and What I Wore Today. Yay!

Amerie Reads Hip Candy!

Ok, not really. Well, honestly... I don't know. I mean she could read Hip Candy right? That would certainly explain why she's sporting one of the GAP shirt dresses that I just posted about a few days ago. That's it! Amerie read that blog post and was so moved and inspired by it, that she went right out to her nearest GAP store and bought a dress. Yep. That's exactly what I think happened. Want one of your own just like it? Get it here.

Shop It To Me!

Wouldn't you like to be alerted when items you wanted in your own size went on sale? I would! Personally, it would save a lot of time that I spend "stalking" things until they actually go on sale (I can't tell you how long I've been "stalking" these Very Prive pumps, but hey, that's a whole other story...). Well the new "personal shopping site" Shop It To Me is here to help! Shop It To Me is an online service that sends you email alerts about clothing that matches your size and brand preferences as soon as it goes on sale.

The service is free and takes less than two minutes to sign up. Just check off from dozens of well-known brands and retailers, then indicate your items of interest (shoes, purses, dress, jewelry, etc.), and then set up a frequency of how often to be sent a custom email alert complete with photos, sale price, and links to the online retailer or online store where you can purchase the item! Simple! And so time saving! Why not get the heads up when sites put your fave brands on sale in your size?! I've signed myself up already! So why don't you check 'em out too!

Miami Swim 2008: Looks from Lycra

I liked the Lycra Swim 2008 show and I'll tell you why. First, I liked they way most of the models were accesorized with cutesy little floral hats and throwback vintage eyewear. Loved that. Secondly, and most importantly, Lycra Swim used models of all shapes and sizes, and what a pleasant surprise for a swimwear show. Lycra swim is alright with me. A few looks from the Lycra Swim 2008 runway show below:

Miami Swim 2008: Looks from Badgley Mischka

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Miami Swim 2008 went down last week in Miami, FL. Badgley Mischka showed off their '08 swimwear, and I thought they did a really classy show. Very upscale and glamourous. You know what the collection looked like to me? Their collection looked like it was made for insanely rich young trophy wives who vacation in only the most glamourous parts of the world. Like the South of France, Portofino, Italy, or Six Flags over Texas. I'm kidding about that last one. A few looks from the so sophisticated Badgley Mischka swimwear collection below.

Shame, Shame, Shame L'Oreal France...

From Beauty Snob:
Apparently in France, "You're worth it" only if you are white. The cosmetics giant L'Oréal was found guilty yesterday of racial discrimination after it sought to exclude non-white women from promoting its shampoo. I read this article in the London Guardian today and had to double check my calendar that it is indeed 2007 and not 1967.

From the article:
"In a landmark case, the Garnier division of the beauty empire, along with a recruitment agency it employed, were fined €30,000 (£20,300) each after they recruited women on the basis of race. The historic ruling - the first time a major company has been found guilty of systematic race discrimination in France - saw a senior figure at the agency given a three-month suspended prison sentence.

Cute Summertime Look

Nicole Sherzer...ling, umm.. the lead singer chick from the Pussycat Dolls attended the Rock & Republic 5 year anniversary blowout in Santa Monica over the weekend. And to be honest, I rarely pay any attention to her, (not really a huge Pussycat Dolls fan...) but when I saw her in this pic, I thought she looked summertime cute. If I were wearing this cutesy white dress, I'd need it to be an inch or two longer (for the city), but for a beach party, which is where she was, I think it's perfect as a dress or a swimsuit coverup. What do ya'll think?

Victoria Beckham: The Anti-Britney.

Victoria Beckham is a breath of cool, fresh summer air in comparison to other celebs who could care less how they looked in public like Britney Spears. The pink dress (RM by Roland Mouret) and matching pink ostrich skin Birkin bag (nice) with minimal black accessories is what Victoria wore to the induction of her husband, David Robert Joseph Beckham to the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team on Friday. And let me just say, I thought she looked fabulous. I know that some people aren't too keen on her, saying things like she's "robotic" and that she rarely smiles, but chick's fashion sense is a whole other story indeed. Her style game is ridiculous, and she rarely misses IMO. Yeah, she can be a little over the top sometimes, but 9 out of 1o of those times, she is completely on point with hers. She's usually always polished. Unlike Britney. Now that the Beckhams are here in the states, I'm gonna be checking for her a lot closer.

As for Britney... umm.. like I said, I'm really gonna be watching for Mrs. Beckham.

Vivica's Animal Print: Cute, Not Cute?

Vivica arriving then leaving Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills this past Tuesday.

Do You Go Commando?

I do! Sometimes. What?! It's summertime, so it's HOT! That, and I try to avoid panty lines whenever and however I can. So yes, occasionally I go "au naturale" under my clothes. COMPLETELY au naturale. But that's me. I'm renegade. A risk taker. A rebel, if you will. And I can handle myself in public (sans undies) much better than most of young Hollywood. Which is why I was too excited to discover Commandos- it's soft cotton comfort without the panties! So I just had to let ya'll know about it too. And their website is too funny the way they casually toss around the words "coochie", and "vagina". Classy! See? Leave it to Hip Candy to link you up with the most sophisticated shopping sites on the web. I know most of you are probably "side-eyeing" this post real hard right about now. And yes, I realize that I recently blogged about ditching your bras for pasties, but try to keep an open mind here too, ok? Now, I haven't actually tried Commandos yet, so I can't really give you my first hand experience, but you can be sure that I'm gonna try 'em! What are Commandos you ask? Commandos are a uniquely shaped disposable patch of cotton that safely sticks in the curved seam of your jeans or pants so you can go underwear free in cotton comfort and protection. And you can score a pack of 8 for about $16. So when you have a minute, check 'em out for yourself!

Go Commando!

Calvin Klein Is A Genius.

Sienna Miller wore this simple Calvin Klein frock for her appearance on David Letterman the other night, and when I saw her in it, I was just like... wow. At first glance, the dress is pretty basic. But that's the genius of it IMO. It's the sheer "nothingness" of this black racerback dress that makes it so chic. The lines in this dress are as clean as it gets in design, and I've always been a fan of the cleanest of lines.

Absolutely fabulous.

Libertine Launches At Target July 15

Punk prep design duo Libertine will join Luella Bartley, Proenza Schouler, Patrick Robinson and others who've already collaborated on affordable lines for Target by launching their line this Sunday, July 15 and it'll run through September 15, 2007.

The Libertine for Target collection is a mix of vintage inspiration and prepster chic, with bold colors, iconic graphics, rich fabrics and classic silhouettes (models wearing Libertine for Target in pic on left). Ranging in price from $12.99 to $39.99, the line will include a variety of summer staples such as Bermuda shorts, pleated skirts, dresses and linen pants as well as polo shirts, silk tops, and button-downs. Some stand-out pieces include shirtdresses, silk bow-front blouses, cropped jackets and silk scarves. IMO, this line has a cool thrift store/vintage-y kind of vibe to it.

Go Braless In Style!

On occasion and from time to time, I sometimes leave the house without a bra on. Ok... so maybe it's really most of the time, but I'm not keeping count. It's very freeing to be braless! And bras aren't always that comfortable anyway, especially in the warmer months. That being said, I don't want to walk into a cold building and *bling* all of a sudden, my "high beams" are on blast for the world to see. Which is why I love breast petals! Bristols6, the company who sells "Nippies" online recently sent some to me to try, and OMG! I love them. I got the sequined hearts from their bridal collection and some cool striped stars. Nippies are fun and ready for a night out! L'il Kim took this look to a bit of an extreme a while back, although I think I still prefer to wear mine in a more concealed fashion, thank you. But check 'em out! I personally have never seen them in so many styles and colors (they even have butterflies!) And their double stick stylin' tape has turned me into a believer as well (the stylin' tape is the same type stuff JLo used to keep that green Versace dress that she wore a while back from flying wide open). The tape kept me perfectly closed in when I wore them recently with a slightly plunging neckline. And believe me, I shook and shimmied to put 'em to the test. Indeed, they passed.

Check out Nippies for yourself now!

MC Lyte On The Essence Fest & BET Awards...

The Essence Music Festival came back home to New Orleans this year after re-locating to Houston last year because of Katrina. I didn't go this year... as a matter of fact, the last time I went was just before Katrina when Gerald Levert was one of the acts on the main stage. And wow. Were we shocked when he took the stage. Women were literally losing their minds screaming for him! It was truly something to watch. I had never seen anything like it. Frankly, I didn't realize at the time that Gerald even had it like that to be honest. He was a true performer. But I hear Essence 2007 was great too, and people couldn't have been happier that it was back in New Orleans this year. MC Lyte, who performed in one of the Essence Super Lounges speaks on it below.

Style Verdict: Classic Sneaks

Some of the girliest girls will still rock a pair of Chuck Taylor All Stars or their inspired counterparts. I currently own a pair in red, heather grey, and black. You get automatic "cool points" for just owning and sporting a pair IMO. I think that they have a casually dressed down but still very "cool-like-that" vibe to them. I like to wear mine with jeans, shorts and even t-shirt dresses. Why? Because I'm cool like that, lol! But I'd like to know what you think about this sneaker look. Do you like it? Hate it? Don't care? Would you wear it? I wanna know your style verdict.

Ratatouille The Movie: My Review.

So, ok... YES. I happen to LOVE cartoons. I have both the Cartoon Network and the spinoff network (with the good throwback cartoons!) Boomerang. I'm also most fond of all manner of animated family movies. Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, all of 'em. I currently own "Sleeping Beauty", "Beauty and the Beast", "The Aristocats", "The Jungle Book", "The Lion King I and II", among many others. I saw "Madagascar", "Happy Feet", and "Surf's Up" all on their opening weekends. So naturally, I could not wait until this new one came out with the mouse who is actually this master chef, and with PARIS as the backdrop? Oh, I was sooo there. And what an absolute cute movie it was! It lived up to every single one of my expectations. But I'm not so naive to think that this movie is gonna be for everybody. You really need to have an open mind while you're sitting there watching it. I mean, it's about a "rat" in a "fine dining" restaurant handling and cooking food. Some people aren't gonna be able to get past that. Some people may even be a little grossed out even though its an animated flick. But for those who can handle it, I thought this movie had a wonderfully refreshing plot and storyline. And without giving anything away, I can say that it was well written, well acted and well animated. I loved it! This one is definitely on my list to own.

Hip Gift Idea!

Doesn't that look YUM! It's the Chocolate Soap Box with an assortment of chocolate scented soaps available at the Soap Cafe. This is the one of the cutest things I've seen in a while. The soaps come scented in milk chocolate, raspberry chocolate orange chocolate, cherry chocolate, peppermint and butterscotch chocolate. And they look good enough to eat! But don't. It's SOAP. Which means they probably don't "taste" that good. But at only $24, what a fun and girly gift idea!
