Style Verdict: Oversized Bangs

I know you guys have had to notice this big bang trend. How could you not! Because it was like all of a sudden, everybody had these huge bangs. The British call them "fringe" and let me tell you, this is one trend that cycles in and out of fashion more than some popular clothing looks. I even wear side swept ones from time to time when I'm rocking my urban "Audrey Hepburn" upsweep complete with headband and liquid liner. Hot. Bangs can give you a completely different look if you don't normally wear them. But I have to admit the oversized ones are a bit much for me. I mean seriously, look at Alicia, Janet and Nelly. You know they can't see! But on the other hand if done right, bangs can bring attention to your eyes and just add some instant drama. So I want to know what you think about this new-but-really-it's-not-so-new hair trend? Do you love it? Hate it? Don't care? Would you try it? I wanna know your style verdict. [spotted @ People.com]

  1. I can't do the "bangs thang"(another southern girl), because I am one of those people who hate hair on or near their face. However, when I was a younger I wore nothing but bangs, but I don't see myself going back any time soon!

  2. I refused to wear bangs. I was forced to hide the forhead as a child and I'm totally rebellious now... not for me.

  3. I LOVE the look if done right, out of these four pics, I like Furtado's. Not feeling Gwen's or Janet's voluminous wig bangs, and Alicia could have went easy on the grease, her bangs look like they're clumping. ;)

  4. I'm still deciding... I can say I've seem them done WRONG more than I've seen them done RIGHT.

Style Verdict: for now the jury is still out.

  5. It would drive me crazy to have them touching my eyelashes so I couldn't do it that long, I like them more swept to the side myself!

  7. I wear bangs myself from time to time. I keep them long enough so I can Just sweep them to the side if need be. I guess that the dramatic bangs are o.k. every once in a while but on an everyday basis, I think not.

  8. Ditto Nicky. It would drive me nuts to have hair touching my eyelids. I actually like the look, just can't swing it though.

  10. I like them. I like the way Janet has her bangs. They are long but somewhat going to the side. Not so much of the straight cut look.

I think I will try them next time I straighten my hair. I am a natural woman these days.

  11. the big bangs are definetly a bit much, swept to the side is much better or even pinned to the back.

  12. In England we call it "a fringe" which refers to the section that hangs over the forehead whereas in the US you talk about "bangs" in a pural sense which has always confused me as I can't work out what a singular "bang" might be. Can anyone clarify?

  13. I like the long wispy bang Janet is rocking, and I also like Nelly Furtado's blunt bang. If my hair was relaxed I sooo would have bangs right now. :)

  15. I kinda love them but I'm afraid to try it as I had that exact same hairstyle in second grade when my grandpa cut my hair.

  16. I wear long bangs, but when they hit my eyelashes, that is TOO long. I usually push them to the side, too long or not.

  17. I was at the supermarket yesterday and this girl had the most annoying bangs that I ever seen, they flipped under, but huge, something you might of seen back in the early eighties...gross....

  19. i wear side swept bangs.... but I really dislike this trend unless its done correctly. As people said, it's a trend, and I personally, enjoy being unique and standing out as my owns person w/ my own fashion inspiration. This very, well, BOLD, look can be done in a sorta rocker chick/ babydoll, edgy look, or it could look awesome in a laid back, bohemian way, paired with some great chunky turqouise accesories, espendrils, and a cute short dress. But, if you are afraid to take the risk and go to an extreme, you can end up looking like a trend following wannabe, or a little school girl. Two things you definitely DO NOT want to be labeled as.
