Did Jeffrey CHEAT on Project Runway?

Project Runway producers "did a very intense and thorough investigation" of accusations that Jeffrey cheated.
{Story below} Jeffrey Sebelia has been investigated for cheating on the runway collection he presented at Fashion Week. Laura “Bennett told the producers she believed Sebelia had outsourced his sewing—which would disqualify him,” according to New York magazine.
Tim Gunn tells the magazine, “We took the accusation very seriously, and we did a very intense and thorough investigation.” Laura’s accusation came after Tim Gunn “visited Sebelia in L.A.” and found him with what Tim describes as “a lot of work to do.” That news, according to New York magazine, “reached Bennett, whose mother had met and become friendly with Sebelia’s mother.” She made her accusation when she saw Jeffrey’s “miraculously finished collection.”
What happened? “Bravo would not allow him to reveal the resolution,” it reports, and it will apparently be dealt with on TV as part of the finale. Tim did say, however, that “His collection was very ambitious. I wasn’t born yesterday.”
I sure can't wait to see what this is about...

  4. Wow. I never knew everyone hated Jeffrey.

Am I the only one who likes him? I especially love his clothes.

Maybe I'm the only one who will be distraught if Jeffrey is disqualified.

  5. like anyone could kick jeffrey's ass.. regardless .. it's not about jeffrey at all ..it's about his art and an overall aesthetic that he is presenting .. you people are cretins and clearly have no creativity wahtsoever .. jeffrey is the only designer with enough creativity to make original, innovative pieces .. so f%#@ off

  6. I love Jeffery! Laura's just jealous!

  7. jeffery is probably typing all the compliments to himself on this blog.

  8. He's the best one there

  9. I believe that Laura is only jealous of Jeffrey's collection. His designs are not boring and creative, not predictable.

  10. Right...Jeffrey is writing all these comments about himself as if he has the time to go to every blog and post about himself. He wouldn't stoop that low.

If people like him, then people like him.
If people don't like him, then people don't like him.

  11. People with small minds always dislike people that do not play by the rules. Jeffrey is abrasive, he says what is on his mind and he isn't politically correct. He doesn't kiss ass becvause it is "the right thing to do". Most people are fucking idiots with unfounded opinions and they cannot stand a rebel...they want everyone to get along...are you kidding me? Jeffrey has more talent than any designer on that show, he sews better, he has honed skills, and if he didnt...some of the rich entertainers that buy his clothes...WOULD NOT buy his clothes. He is a designer not a boyscout. Since when did you have to have a kind personality to be an artist. Feeble minded retards.

    Well said.
    I agree!

  13. Jeffrey is a horrible human being. I hate him. His clothes aren't even good. Ugh...

  14. have any of the haters been watching the show? jeffrey is a genious! he didnt cheat, he didnt lie, so stop your rude accusations!

  15. Jeff is the only innovative designer. Period. If it's true he outsourced, that's sad. Got a feeling he didn't.
And yes, Laura is envious. Did anyone catch one of the reasons why she should win . . . she needed the money to start her own collection!! YEAH, RIGHT. Did you see where she lives! Not only where she lives, but that HUGE space in NYC. Give me a break. She's boring, she's a copycat designer, been done before sweetheart. Period.

  16. Oh please, Jeffrey "not playing by the rules" has nothing to do with why I don't like him. The guy is a prick and his clothing sucks. It's all "poser" wear. Btw, "Feeble minded retards," wtf? And how mature of you to attack people who don't even know. We dislike Jeffrey and suddenly we are feeble minded and retards. Wow, such a deep insight. I can now see why you like Jeffrey so much...

    ReplyDelete
  17. As it is also immature to attack right back?

    It's just a show, people.
So some people like him and some people don't, no need to call names here and personal attacks.
    That goes for everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Hi, please look at the definition between a "response" and an "attack."

    ReplyDelete
  19. Michael should have won but his final collection is lame. The pregnant woman will win, if not Uli.

    ReplyDelete
  20. "And how mature of you to attack people who don't even know."

I can see the confusion. The way this was typed gave the connotation of an attack. I apologize if it was meant otherwise.

I beg that we can be amiable, civil people here.

  21. In tonight's show, Laura displayed a previously absent resentment of Jeffrey before he ever walked into the hotel where they were all staying. At the very beginning of the show, before she had ever seen his collection, she was saying how competitive she had gotten, and how desperately she wanted Jeffrey NOT to win. Then she made the accusation about his work. And then she had the gall to try to tell him (previews for next week) that she thought she and Jeffrey were friends, and that this wasn't about him. Well, Laura, you can't have it both ways.

I don't think Laura's been paying attention: Jeffrey has a successful design business. His job, his career, is making one of a kind garments. He didn't just start doing this recently, he's been doing it for a number of years. Of COURSE he's going to be good at it. Of COURSE he's going to have everything ready before the deadline. And while I can't attest to the quality of the work on the show because I can't see it up close, I can say that I have noticed before that Jeffrey is ALWAYS done on time, if not early. How many times did you see him racing to finish something? The Mom challenge notwithstanding, I recall no challenges in which he even foundered or groped for an idea. He's a professional, Laura. By having everything ready by the time he got to New York, he was conducting himself in a manner befitting a professional. If he weren't in the habit of meeting deadlines and having beautifully finished products, then he would be out of business.

I would have to agree, Laura is coming off as jealous and threatened. It's unfortunate, because I think she is a talented woman who has the skill to go places with her work. This makes me question her integrity, and that's a shame.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love Jeffrey because he's got an attitude and he's not afraid to express it. Funny how people will slam Jeffrey for being abrasive but not say a thing about designers like Laura who do nothing but slam others and complain. She's essentially a female Jeffrey. Besides, it wouldn't make good tv if everybody got along great. Nobody wants to see a room full of designers who love each other!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hahahahahahahaha! This is great! A whole bunch of people who have nothing better to do but fight over tv!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I commend Laura for speaking up, cheating puts everyone else at a disadvantage, not just the whistle-blower. If one of the others had the same information, would they have said something? Of course, they would!

As far as Jeffrey's "talent" is concerned, his clothes are indeed rag-bag ugly. The yellow-plaid "tablecloth" dress was the clincher. The only thing missing was a bottle of chianti with a dripping candle perched on top the model's head. Dreadful!!! I anxiously await his turn to cry!

    ReplyDelete
  25. haha I can't believe you called it "poser wear" seriously what are you a fifty year old woman. I think Jeffrey is the the best designer on the show and I HOPE he didn't cheat. Laura is jealous because she's not as talented. We all have our own taste and generally people who don't like Jeffrey's cloths would like Laura's cloths.
"Hahahahahahahaha! This is great! A whole bunch of people who have nothing better to do but fight over tv!"
Whoever said that is a moron because you have nothing better to do than to go on random blog sites and say stuff like that. Seriously, if you have no valid imput on the subject you should just stfu. Why waste your time and comment at that point.

  26. Jeffrey is the best designer on that show hands down..He has the most unique designs and i thought almost all of his clothes he designed was absolutely beautiful..If he left it would suck. Laura is just pmsing cause shes a pregnant old effing wrinkly @ss hag.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jeffrey should definitely win because he's the most innovative one out of the four. I like Michael, but I saw his final pieces and what the hell was he thinking? Uli's dresses are pretty, but she makes the same thing over and over again...and finally, Laura...Laura needs to stop the anger or else she's going to have one "serious ugly" baby who constantly curses and needs anger management. How can a pregnant woman be that bitchy and say such ugly words? I feel sorry for her unborn child. And I hate her mundane cocktail dresses. Barf

  28. Well the buck stops here. No matter what, they ALL get to show at fashion week: http://iamfashion.blogspot.com/2006/09/project-runway-season-3-at-ny-fashion.html

Now it's just a matter of watching the final episode to see if Jeff is still in the running after the runway show...

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think the whole scandal sucks. If Laura's right, then Jeffrey will be disqualified. But what if she's wrong? What happens to Jeffrey- nothing except all of this bad press that he did nothing to deserve. And what happens to Laura? She just sits back in her little black dress and says, "I had to at least get it checked out..." It's not her place to throw accusations. The producers should be responsible for monitoring the contestants and checking receipts and all of that. Laura just wants to eliminate any competition that she can!

  30. Laura's got some kind of "SERIOUS UGLY SOUL"
LET ANYONE WIN BUT HER........ HATEFUL HAG.

jeffery is honest? whatever. notice how in every episode everyone speaks up about some issue but he just pretends he's not there unless asked then he is all.. oh yeah about that!

he only attacks people he thinks are weak willed, like angela and her mother.

he never once attacked vincent and his designs were fucking disgusting but he knew vincent would kill him if he did say something!

he is not all bad boy, i do what a want, so stfu!

if you were on a show with someone you know can't sew that well and all of a sudden everything is impeccable, wouldnt you be suspicious???

because yes he has had his moments of awesomeness but when it comes down to it , who gets the most compliments on being the best little sewer?

LAURA!! NOT JEFF! GO SUCK IT! he is known for his creativeness not his sewing skills...and i dont even care for laura!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Laura could not win on talent (she has none) so she attacked Jeff. During the regular season he was always finishing ahead of everybody and doing great finish work.

Laura should have been gone WEEKS ago - especially after that gown in Paris - yuck!

I always liked Michael also, but since she was so eager to agree with Laura about Jeff (after Tim expressed some concern with his collection) I'm beginning to think he is just jealous also.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Jeffrey's style is so not new or innovative ! As for his winning couture dress - Doesn't anyone know an Alexander McQueen/Vivienne Westwood knockoff when they see one ? PLEEZE !!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. U all are forgeting, Laura may have vocalized that she thinks he's cheating, but Michael and Uli were thinkin the same thing! Uli was even the one who actually looked at his clothes to make her assumption. They can't all be wrong for questioning it. And Laura wasn't dawgin his style, she just didn't think he executed such craftmanship in such a short time. Would you honestly say you wouldn't question it if you were in the midst of a 12 peice collection? its a competition and competitive spirits will arrise. if she's wrong she's wrong and good luck to jeff (despite his less than amusing personality) if she's right then the truth shall be revealed!

    ReplyDelete
  35. The guy has everything on the line just like the other 3 as far as winning the show and all the prize-- of course he's going to be putting 200% effort into getting everything done and perfected. He's confident that he is going to win so why would he waste any time or need any outside help? He's simply a perfectionist when he has all time that he needs. I don't question his innocence at all aside from him saying that he was scared to death of getting thrown off. why be so afraid if you know you're innocent?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Honestly, hearing about the trials Jeffrey went through in his life and possibly hearing that he cheated..really is a disappointment. It seems he's taken his addictive personality and channeled the energy to win at all costs for his wife, son and himself. To prove that he is not a loser. It's not a crazy notion to think to he might do that at any cost. What SHOCKED me more than anything though was seeing how the contestants reacted when they became suspicious. Looking at his clothes when he wasn't in the room. That was WAY across the line. I could see Laura doing that, but Uli and especially Michael. He seems to never have a bad word for anymore. This is one of the times in life when human behavior disgusts me. A TV show never left a worse taste in my mouth.

  37. Suspiciously Missing... Take a look at the Fashion Week photos of Jeffrey's collection. Did anyone else catch that the blonde wigs he wanted to use on the models & the pleated shorts (he outsourced) are missing from the actual collection showing ?

    ReplyDelete
  38. In my opinion, Jeffery has had some really great pieces as well as some duds. However, I definitely think that after last night's final collection preview, his seemed to be the most creative and innovative of the collections. I think all of the designers were likely on edge going into Bryant Park and it does look like there was some jealousy brewing.

But I will say this, Laura, while not always pleasant or even likeable, atleast was upfront with the other designers about her opinions on the show. She rarely said something to the camera that she hadn't already told someone to their face. Jeffery is clearly very talented, but I didn't like how he seemed to bad mouth people to the cameras and he clearly thought of everyone else as inferior designers. (They are all talented in their own way!) And the whole situation with Angela's mother left a bad taste in my mouth. He should have found some way to apologize.

In a nutshell, Laura wasn't the only one to question Jeffery's collection. And she didn't question the designs, she questioned the execution. If Jeffery was as busy as he claimed to be, it does seem pretty impossible that he was completely finished, especially considering where he was at in production three weeks prior.

I don't think that it was wrong that the other designers questioned Jeffery. It would be a true disappointment if someone won in an unfair manner, but it was sort of sad that they were looking at his garments when he was out of the room. That should have been left to Tim.

Most of all, I have been shocked to see Jeffery in interviews and on the show. He didn't react at all like I would have expected. He seemed uneasy or scared, not upset about the accusations, which I would expect if he were truly confident that he committed no wrong doing. I hope the accusations aren't true because it seems a shame that he would take such a risk. He has such a good chance to win the whole thing! I guess we shall see.

  39. Jeffrey is an artist. Laura makes nice fancy party dresses. Jeffrey was always finished early. He is quick and driven and brilliant.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I just have to add something even though it's history. Angela's mother was such a pathetic woman. She sets herself up to be a victim and then ends up looking like a martyr. I've seen that 'poor me' behavior in my wife's mother and believe me, my wife who had to grow with that kind of narcissism applauded the way Jeffrey treated her and I did too. She meant for him to fail because show only know failure and will make that happen.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Jeff is interesting and really talented. His personal story made me understand his demeanor, and I like him more and more. I'm an architect and Laura personifies everything I dislike in other architects. What's with the huge ugly belts in her final collection?? I will be really depressed if Laura's accusations are true!! Kudos to Uli for forcing Laura to bring her slander out into the open.

    ReplyDelete
  42. After seeing how Laura deals with her children I feel she has little control of her life. Sewing is her escape. Sewing is her outlet where she feel control. If you notice the ones who did not take her advice or ask for her advice she was very critical of. Jeffery marches to his own drummer. Lauras clothing all look ver similar. Notice all the consistantly same neck lines. Her clothing was beautiful but was basically all the same. I very seldon find the need for clothing her style. Jeffery does vary his style as doed Michael. I wish them all the best but for variety Jeffery and Michael are the best.

    ReplyDelete
  43. you wabt him kciekd off for his personality? whether he cheated or not?

    ReplyDelete
  44. jeffrey is a HUGE poser. if he really had a successful LA desing business, he would never do this show. also, he never actually denied getting outside help and infact admitted to having someone do his "pleating".

however, at the reunion episdoe, laura and jeff seemed very amicable . . .(at that point fashion week was over right?)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Whether you like Jeffrey or not, if he cheated, he should be booted. Period.

I personally don't like his personality, and I tend to think his clothes are badly sewn together rags, but he has shown a couple pieces I found rather creative, so I don't think he's a hack.

But, again, regardless of personal opinion, his cheating should be punished.

Also, hasn't it been noted that Laura's mom knew by talking to Jeff's mom about the outsourcing? If that's the case, I think that's why Laura was angry at him from the beginning. I think she was waiting for the right time to point out his perfect collection and point out the cheating.

Quite frankly, if I knew someone I was competing against was cheating, I'd speak up too. It should be a level field. Besides, even if he did cheat, Jeff's proven he can make the clothes that certain people who like that style will buy. So, cheating or not, he's still talented in many peoples' eyes, so he'll be fine either way.

    ReplyDelete
  46. While Jerffery's personality can range from caustic to childish at times, I don't think he begrudges others' success or has an outright agenda to sabatoge others like Laura. And being a successful LA rock clothing designer would make it difficult for him to be accepted in the world of high fashion without a major boost to his career that Project Runway could provide. I am not sure if he "cheated" by outsourcing. The biggest question in my mind was that he might have had some of those pieces he submitted pre-made from his own clothing line previous to winning the final challenge. It is not a stretch to see that he could be ahead if he was using designs that were close to being finished before the show selected him to go to fashion week. I am not saying he did this, but with a work room in LA the size of a warehouse, it could be possible. I think it's definitely innocent until proven guilty on that one. It's also not surprising to think that someone who does this for a living in LA could rise to the occassion and pull out some great pieces at the last minute that were beautifully and professionally constructed...WITHOUT cheating. I think Micheal and Uli just jumped on the band wagon because it was easier to believe that he cheated than to deal with the fact he could really be more professionally experienced than themselves. Besides, it's not like Laura needed any prodding to create the drama, she was just waiting for the right moment to pounce.

As for Laura, she is one of the most back-stabbing, insecure, manipulative and pathetic women I've ever seen trying to pretend she's a "career woman". Every single episode she would hone in on the weaknesses of the people she wanted to see off the show. Her "concern" for others' problems were always laced with such glee and she could barely contain herself as she attempted to cast doubts and barbs upon whoever she pretended to "help". She never had any genuine concern or friendship for anyone. Her emotions are "one-note" and her personality is distastful because of her ingenuine behavior. I could have tolerated this if she had the talent to have an actual opinion, but she's a joke.

It's quite obvious she's just upset that other people have artistic vision while her mundane has-been designs are all about dressing herself. If she wins this show, it will be truly dissapointing. She is an amateur through and through and knows it. People who are talented do not need to put so much energy into bringing other people down. She is so jealous of everyone else because she is aware that no matter how hard she tries, she will never have that level of creativity. It's just easier if she can find a way to disqualify her peers rather than actually COMPETE with them. This horse faced hack should just go back to her posh NY flat and raise her children, who seem out of control due to complacent parents who are too busy trying to pump up their own egos. She should be grateful she made it to the finals, she didn't deserve it and her behavior obviously shows that in each episode. I'm sure part of her staying power is that she's just so catty she makes for good TV. At this point I would hope ANYONE but her would win the final, I cannot imagine anyone in the industry wanting to work with that pompous ego, becuase she doesn't have the talent to back it up. Watching her walk around with such of false sense of self-entitlement just makes you despise her more. Good luck Jeffery, Uli, and Michael.....Laura, try to ensure you don't raise children who enter the criminal justice system as defendants, our society would benefit more that way and we won't miss your clothing. How can we? It's all been done before by people with actual talent.

  47. I'd have to agree with the above comments about Jeffrey
acing this one. Simplay he is a working proffessional who is used to meeting deadlines. That coupled with having a separate fully outfitted design studio and living in a city that has a fashion community (sorry Uli and Michael) certainly helps as well.
Laura's protests of 'where did he have the time?!?' can be countered with the fact that jeffrey isnt a baby factory with 6 kids to entertain.
I also seemed to recall the on Tim's visit's that Michael was seriously behind, and Uli and Laura were told to go back and rethink some of their pieces. Very rarely throughout the show has Jeffrey needed a talking to (in all fairness though neither has Uli).
IMHO though Uli deserves it (shes perfect for an Inc. consumer), inexplicably Michael (whome i thought would win)has been batting zeros recently. As for Laura, &^#$! her. Her idea of fashion is "fashion" in big quotes, trite 80's ideas, I half expect to see that stupid Doisneau print of the couple kissing hanging in her loft.

  48. Jeffrey has never been a favorite of mine. That said, I admire his talent. Like him or not he has a definite point of view and my hope is that he didn't cheat because I was looking forward to seeing it coming down the runway at Fashion Week.
However, I don't hate Laura for making the accusation. If she feels that he didn't play by the rules then she has every right to make sure that it's investigated. Just like Kane did.

  49. Laura Bennet is an ugly, talentless, b****, who wouldn't know style if it kicked her in the face. How did she make it to the final four? Jeffrey was already designing for celebrities before the show started.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Word on the street is Laura Bennet ate the baby she was pregnant with. Supposedly, the child helped Jeffrey with his collection.

    ReplyDelete
  51. The only ting that makes me suspect of Jeffery's collection was the making of the bags, the leather pants, and having NOT ONE thing to sew when he got back to NY. B/C he has his own line....he must have access to a lot of professional clothes makers ...shedding more light on the "finishing" of his work. I do think Laura was jealous... but his work was way too perfect. His attitude sucks, and I can't even IMAGINE trying to work for someone like him!!! Michael is my favorite, but I agree his final collection was less than stellar. I am so curious to see what happens!!!
