Style Verdict - Steve Madden or Payless?

When I saw these two almost identical shoes in two separate ads, I immediately thought, what's the difference? One is the Steve Madden "Cristan" (bottom) and the other is Payless "Knotty" Stacked Wedge. Both peep toe with a stacked heel. Steve's "upper" is made of actual suede, and the Payless one is faux. The Steve stack is almost 4.5 inches, and the Payless one is 3". The Payless shoe comes in the color shown, the Steve Madden's come in an array of colors (navy suede, red suede, grey suede, green suede, black suede, black patent, brown suede and leopard). Payless retails for $22.99, the Steve Madden's $69.95. Who has the better deal? Would you buy either one? Which one? Why? I wanna know your style verdict.

I don't like faux wood be it plastic or leather. Not a good look. Also, I am a shoe snob, meaning I don't buy shoes from payless, target, or from anywhere the shoes do not come in a box. I usually buy Nine West and/or Steve Madden (this is the cheapest I will go, and I find them on sale of course).

I saw this also.. Not to mention.. Goody's.. ( I don't know if ya'll have them where you're at) has the same shoe also. Anyways.. I'd buy the payless version, no one would be able to tell that I was wearing Payless, ALSO, I could save that extra $40 and buy me a Cinnabon or something!

it all depends on how the payless shoe fit. I NEVER go in payless because there shoes are not FLEXABLE and when I bend my feet when I walk the shoe won't move with me and they inturn hurt. I love shoes and the cose doesn't matter but it does matter if the will not bend and hurt. Payless shoes don't bend and they hurt. I would go for the Steve Madden and save me some pain. But on a side note, if I got a tip they had the shoe I would go try it. But if there is not flexability it would be a no go.

I wouldn't buy either one. I don't buy ANYTHING that mass produced! I don't want to step out and see MY shoes on anybody else's feet. I'd rather pay the price to be exclusive! Shoes and handbags are something that I spare no expense. I'd buy them for my daughter who's 14, she's still "hard" on her shoes. But for me, "faux" ain't cute!

I agree with Erica about the mass production of shoes, but to answer the question: I would say Steve Madden would get my money because the heel is higher, more color and fabric options, and the look is more "exspensive" looking. Plus, I think they would last longer in the end.

I think I'd have to see the Payless shoe. I've bought really expensive shoes, and I've bought shoes at Target. And sometimes Target shoes look and feel really cheap, but sometimes you can find a gem. I think there's nothing better than getting a great shoe at a bargain price!

I also heard that Payless is doing a "designer" collection that is going to be slightly more expensive, but still a bargain. I can hardly wait to see!

If there were a huge disparity in price (more than $40) I would be more inclined to jump on the payless shoe. For my feet, i have found payless shoes to be some of the most comfortable. It's my new spring/summer sandal spot. I'm not gonna buy a $400 pair of sandals to wear for 1 summer. I would rather buy $400 worth of payless sandals and wear a different pair every day.

Now on the other end of the spectrum, I won't buy cheap stiletos, boots, or otherwise. That's where I draw the line.

Can't do it. Maybe if I were destitute and had a $30 shoe budget, I'd take it there. Otherwise, I haven't seen the inside of a Payless ever since the last summer my mother bought my school clothes.

I'm with you "Erica B.". For me, it would have to be a really different, unique twist on this shoe for me to buy either one, so NO to both. I prefer to stick with my own interpretations of the season's trends. I like to feel good when I get all snazzy, so what's to be proud of, when EVERYONE is wearing the same ish?? :o ;)

With a shoes as trendy as this one is, I would go with the payless version. For a classic shoes can be worn for several seasons, I would definitely go with the more expensive.

I don't like either one. I agree that Payless shoes are not flexible and they also look cheap. Steve Madden has some ballet shoes I would wear and even a flat peeptoe. But I agree with Erica B that for shoes and handbags I like to go all out. Leather is one of many things where quality makes a huge difference.

I'll do Payless for flats but that is all. Steve Madden shoes always, always hurt my feet.

I now only buy shoes from Infinity
in New York but not because I am a snob I just like funky shoes.

I tried on both and ended up with the Payless version because believe it or not it fit my foot better and was far more comfortable. I have tons of shoes by Steve Madden and tons from Payless. If you haven't been inside Payless since those school days it has definitely changed since then.

if they styles are similar, which these two are, i'll go with the payless shoes because it's worth my money.. but if i can't find similar steve madden shoes elsewhere.. and i feel like i really have to get them.. then i will.. but i have wide feet so.. payless is always the way to go... wouldn't really get their purses though.. but u'll be surprised what kind of deals payless has.. such as the BOGO and they're clearance is always like 60% or something like that... i'm cheap... haha
